From Void to Creation: The Story Behind Psychedelic Pebbles

Seeing the World Through Layers

At Psychedelic Pebbles, my art reflects how I experience the world—a perspective shaped by my neurodiversity and unique creative journey. As an autistic individual with aphantasia (the inability to "invoke" images in my mind), I don’t experience the world visually in the traditional sense. This disconnection from mental imagery opens up a deep, vast, and multidimensional inner space—a kind of void. It’s a space where the mind doesn’t rely on visual reference, but instead perceives the world through rhythm, movement, and patterns. This creates a layering effect where each line and shape feels as though it’s unfolding from that vast, ever-expanding inner void.

People often describe my work as “psychedelic” or “trippy,” but for me, it’s not about substances or altered states. It’s about how I naturally experience the world: layers of depth and complexity, constantly shifting and evolving. My work captures that perception—a dimensional experience of life that I express through intricate linework, optical illusions, and geometric shapes. The “psychedelic” quality reflects the vastness and ever-changing nature of this mental space—where every new creation feels like a discovery within that inner void.

Exploring Contrast and Complexity

I primarily work in black and white because it allows me to focus on contrast—the space between light and dark, order and chaos. Through delicate linework, optical illusions, and geometric shapes, I capture the fluidity of my mind—a balance of chaos and structure, constantly evolving and digging deeper. I don’t see the world as static; to me, everything is always shifting and unfolding, and I find peace in that endless progression.

Patterns as Perception

The patterns I create aren’t inventions; they’re translations of how I experience the world. Every piece reflects my surroundings—vibrant, layered, and full of depth. My work isn’t about escaping reality; it’s about diving into it, feeling the rhythm of what’s right in front of me, and exploring the texture of the everyday.

A New Kind of Perception

The way I experience the world shapes my art. Despite not having a mental image to work from, I find depth in patterns and process. My brain doesn’t rely on visualizing images—it moves through space and detail in layers, constantly shifting. And that’s exactly how I create: through the fluidity of line and form, where drawings pour out naturally. What others often describe as “psychedelic” in my work is the expression of that perception—a rich, dimensional way of seeing that’s unique to my neurodiverse experience. Through my art, I invite others to experience the world as I do—a place of infinite layers and unfolding complexity.

Digital Art: The Heart of My Creative Journey—Into the Void

Digital art has been the cornerstone of my work for over a decade, shaping and evolving alongside my artistic style. I first discovered its potential in college, but it wasn’t until years later, when I got my iPad, that it truly took off. With this new tool, the possibilities seemed endless. Digital art became so accessible and fluid that it felt like a natural extension of my thoughts and ideas.

What began as experimentation quickly turned into a thriving practice. I’ve accumulated thousands of drawings—each one a small step in my journey of exploration. And despite the volume of work, I still feel like I’ve only just begun.

Over time, my digital creations began to influence and transform the way I approached physical art. The layered techniques I used in my digital pieces spilled over into tangible works, and I found myself incorporating multiple layers in everything I made, from prints to textiles to even the lanyards and other pieces in my shop.

Each layer, whether digital or physical, adds depth, meaning, and texture to the final piece. It’s become a defining characteristic of my work, representing the ever-evolving nature of creativity and how it flows from one medium to the next.

How It All Connects to the Shop

How My Art Connects to the Shop

For me, digital art isn’t just about creating on a screen—it’s about adding layers of complexity, movement, and energy to everything I make. The work you see in my shop represents years of exploration in digital art, where I’ve combined different techniques and elements to craft something more than just a design.

Each piece, whether a screen print, hand-printed textile, or custom design, carries the essence of my digital explorations. It's all interconnected. Every item reflects the layers of inspiration I've developed over time, and the best part? It’s only going to keep evolving. Dive deeper into my creations, and see the journey unfold.
